Clean Sweep Coming to Our Neighborhood May 10

Clean Sweep, the annual city-wide clean-up program held in the spring & fall, will highlight the SE quadrant on Saturday, May 10. This Saturday, UMHN is working on Mark's Park. We have Forestry workers coming to assist us and a team of 21 U of R students volunteering to help us excavating an abandoned stone bench on the hillside beside the canal, to setup in the Park, and tend to the flowers, etc. We hope to be able to build 3 benches.

We are in need of

  • a gas propelled weed eaters and
  • a power screwdriver
  • a new sign to put up naming this stretch "Mark"s Park"!
  • some flowers or plants
  • a couple of lawn mowers.

If anyone would be willing to let us borrow theirs it would be greatly appreciated. Call Cindy at 244-0409 and we'll make arrangements to get them either to the park or to her house which is just down the street from the park.

If you wish to participate, please register with the City by calling 311. There is also information at the city’s website http://www.cityofrochester.gov/ (open registration form).

On the morning of May 10th, participants will gather at 8:30, at Lake Riley in Cobb’s Hill Park. Coffee, juice & doughnuts will be provided, and free t-shirts will be handed out and then everyone goes to their worksites for 3-4 hours. Around noon, workers return to Cobb’s Hill for a free picnic lunch.

If you would like to be a project coordinator or if you have another idea for an Upper Mt. Hope Neighborhood project (maybe a new public flower garden?) please contact Denise Lippa president@umhn.com or 461-0795. Join in the fun and help to beautify our neighborhood.
