Fall General Meeting Held
Upper Mt. Hope Neighborhood residents gathered on Monday, October 29th to hear 3 guest speakers and to ask questions about a variety of topics. Thanks to Phil Banks, from the City’s Economic Development team, for filling us in on some early details of the Upper Mt. Hope Avenue redesign and reconstruction. This is still in the very early stage, therefore not much to share. Helen Hogan from SEAC and Melanie Solomon from the Mt. Hope Business Association, both emphasized the “team” aspect of this reconstruction process. Ideas are still being formulated, and residents’ and business owners’ opinions are welcomed. You may contact either Helen or Melanie with your ideas and concerns.
The “hot” topic for that evening’s meeting was the effect that growth
at the U of R Medical Center (Strong Memorial Hospital) is having on our neighborhood, most particularly parking issues.
Unfortunately, we didn’t anticipate this is where the discussion would lead to, and therefore no representatives from the U of R were invited to attend.

January meeting scheduled
However, the officials at the University are always open to our requests to come to a neighborhood meeting to listen to residents and answer questions regarding our neighborly situations. In light of the discussion at the fall meeting, a Special General Meeting has been scheduled for January 28th. This meeting will be held in the St. Anne Church Social Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m. If you had questions at the October meeting, please come back to this specially scheduled meeting with U of R officials; we are hopeful that a discussion about our concerns, parking in particular, will result in maintaining our successful neighborhood relationship.
