IMPORTANT UMHN NOTICE
Mt. Hope Avenue Redevelopment
Meeting Planned for Oct. 21st
Neighbors, business owners, and leaders from the community and the city, and consultants, all came out to the South Presbyterian Church in August to see and hear the results from a previous workshop which focused on the redevelopment of Mt. Hope Avenue.
|
|
Ingalls Planning and Consulting took all the information gathered
at the previous workshop and drafted a proposal that best addressed the needs and concerns of our community. This proposal is a first draft and will most likely encounter more changes as more input is gathered.
Additionally there are several new changes in the current zoning laws that are under review by the Mt. Hope Business Association. A majority of these changes are designed to help create a theme that is easily recognizable along with addressing the concerns of neighbors. They will also help to govern the development of the U of R’s College Town concept.me back soon to read about the Mt. Hope Redesing up-date.
We invite everyone to hear more of this plan, and participate in the process of this important change in our neighborhood, when we gather on Tuesday, October 21st at St. Anne Church Social Hall, beginning at 6:30 p.m.

Upper Mt. Hope Community Traffic Design
and Development Issues Workshop
Neighbors, business owners, community leaders, city leaders, and consultants all came out to the South Presbyterian Church on Saturday, June 21 to participate in a workshop which focused on the redevelopment of Mt. Hope Avenue.
|
 |
This was a chance for everyone who lives or works in the area to pull their ideas together on how they would like to see Mt. Hope Avenue look, if they could change it. There are not many times when we can actually change something as large as Mt. Hope Avenue, however due to a large multimillion dollar grant, we are able to do so. This is a project that has been on the planning boards for close to 8 years now.
|
 |
The workshop itself allowed everyone to individually vote via a tally sheet on 30 different pictures of neighborhood and business scapes. Afterwards, everyone was placed in groups of 10 and asked to write down the concerns they have with the current configuration of Mt. Hope, and the changes they would like to see to improve the road and surrounding area. |
TOPICS INCLUDED:
-
Installing a roundabout or rotary at the intersections of Crittenden Road, Mt. Hope Ave. and Fort Hill Terrace.
-
On-street parking with numerous “bump-outs” so cars in groups of 3 could park.
-
Placing grass barriers between the road and sidewalk to allow for a more pedestrian-friendly feel.
-
Possible median, which would eliminate left hand turns thus reducing the accident rate on Mt. Hope Avenue.
-
A small access road behind a number of the businesses on the east side of Mt. Hope Ave. This would allow people to drive from one business to another without having to enter Mt. Hope Ave. and make a left hand turn.
-
Building heights and square footage of buildings.
-
The kind of businesses that would be attractive. Most thought grocery store.
