Mark’s Park
For those of you who are not familiar with “Mark’s Park,” it is a stretch of state-owned land on the curve of Westmoreland Drive, between the canal and the street.
Since it is state land, the city does not maintain any of the area along the street. Therefore, it becomes overgrown and very unsightly.

The last few years, we have taken advantage of the “Clean Sweep” events, to try and clear out this area. At one time, this was a well maintained park, cared for by a local gentleman, Mark Wunder. In his name and honor, we would like to restore “his” park. However, we need lots of help! |
During this spring’s Clean Sweep, a group of U of R students volunteered to help us. We all built two stone benches, which were rescued from the canal, along with other donated benches. The bridge over the ditch was refurbished also.
On Saturday June 7, a few people mowed, cleared out brush and planted flowers. |

We will continue to do so, but request the help of others to join us. Do you love plants, enjoy gardening and have some extra time on Saturday mornings?, come and volunteer a little bit of you great skills to Mark's Park. If you have equipment (lawn mowers, chain saws, pruning shears, etc.), it would be helpful to bring those items along.
|
We need gentle hands, strong arms, landscaping skills or just a helping hand to pull out a weed or two while passing by.
By opening up this area visually, and keepinp it maintained, we will discourage crime and unwanted activity. We look forward to having many of you assist in this project. |
