Project Hope:
UMHN Loses Artist, Supporter, Friend

Our neighborhood mourns the loss of a long-time friend and active member of UMHN, Achille Forgione, Jr., on May 16, 2009.

Achille was supportive of our organization, and was always willing to lend-a-hand. His participation in our “Project Hope” was vital; he interpreted the children’s drawings into artwork that could be forged into the steel silhouette signs, which you now see hanging along Mt. Hope, Elmwood, and South Avenues.

His art studio was located on Mt. Hope Avenue. Some of his sculptures can be
seen at Strong Memorial, Rochester General and (the former) St. Mary’s hospitals. Achille

Achille Forgione

was also active in and supportive of community theatre; in fact, he played a role, along with a small group of friends, in forming Geva Theatre in the early 70s. We will miss this neighbor and friend; but every time we look at his artwork hanging along our streets, we will fondly recall all that he did to make our neighborhood and city a more beautiful place to be. We extend our condolences and heartfelt sympathy to Achille’s
friends and family.
