Points of Interest from Fall 2007 PCIC Meetings

A brainstorming session helped to identify the top issues of the east side neighborhoods.  Many of the other neighborhoods experience the same concerns as UMHN. Traffic/parking violations is a main one.  (Lilac neighbors also contend with Highland Hospital employee problems that include smoking, noise, traffic, street parking, etc.)

  • Community Meetings will be held once each quarter.  These meetings are open for all community members to meet and speak with officers from different shifts who are assigned to patrol our area.  The last one was held on Wednesday, December 12, at the East division Office, located in the Tops Plaza at North Clinton Ave. and Upper Falls Blvd.
  • The Anti-Robbery Initiative is a collaborative effort with the City Forestry Department.  They are pruning trees that block street lights.  The City is also planning to increase the wattage of the lights, but the fixtures must be changed first.
  • The Anti-Violence Initiative involves groups of officers moving every four hours into different areas of the city (white males have been the primary targets/victims of crime after the bars close).  The Ford Street Bridge will be a likely point for installment of security cameras.

If you need to be in touch with the officers assigned to UMHN, they are Commander Mark Case and Lt. Frank Churnetski.
